Mike Palmateer blanks Detroit 2-0, March 26, 1981
Posted on August 08, 2012
As our flashback summer continues, we head back today to March 26, 1981. Goaltender Mike Palmateer (sporting a sweet mask in this photo) recorded a 2-0 shutout at Detroit against the Red Wings. Tim Tookey and Mike Gartner provided the goals, as Palmateer picked up the victory. It was one of two shutouts he'd pitch for the Capitals that season. Over two seasons with Washington, Palmateer won 20 games and sported a 4.03 goals against average. But on March 26, 1981, he was the story.
Listen to Ron Weber from the link below, with the call of the goals, and the end of the game, from Joe Louis Arena. It was Washington's 24th win of the season, in a year the team would ultimately collect 70 points.
