Ultimate Highlight: Capitals and Bruins and the 2012 Eastern Conference QuarterfinalsPosted on March 04, 2013 by John Walton
Studio host Ben Raby is a master at putting together audio highlights and packages, but this masterpiece from the 2012 Stanley Cup playoffs in my opinion is his best work. The Capitals, as the seven seed in the Eastern Conference, weren't given much of a chance to beat the defending Stanley Cup champion and second seeded Boston Bruins last season. Braden Holtby in the eyes of the national media was nearly unknown after spending most of the season in Hershey. But in the end, a guy with just six goals in 73 games would be one of the biggest heroes in franchise history.
In 10 minutes, you'll hear everything. Dale Hunter, Braden Holtby, Troy Brouwer, Jason Chimera, Karl Alzner and Matt Hendricks from the Washington locker room. The radio calls from me and Ken Sabourin, as well as Boston's Dave Goucher and Bob Beers. Calls from the TV side with Joe B. and Locker make an appearance, and Brendan Shanahan's suspension of Nicklas Backstrom has to be included. Tyler Seguin's winner in Game 6, and of course Joel Ward's epic finish in Game 7 against Tim Thomas. If this doesn't get you ready for the return of the Bruins Tuesday night, nothing will. There's a good chance you'll have a smile on your face, especially at the end. From start to finish, the best of the 2012 Eastern Conference Quarterfinals, as the Capitals defeated Boston four games to three.
On Tuesday, the Bruins return to D.C. for the first time since then. Hope this helps get you ready for it. 6:45 airtime on 106.7 The Fan, 1500 AM, 1300 AM and 97.5 FM in Baltimore, and most Capitals Radio Network affiliates.
