Up 1-0 late in the 2nd period, the Capitals picked up a goal from Joel Ward at the top of the goal crease. After Philadelphia's Ray Emery stopped Ward on his first attempt, number 42 scored his first of the preseason at 16:35. Jakub Voracek scored for the Flyers in the final minute of the frame, making the score 2-1 Washington after 40.
